European Markets   

The EU markets closed lower for the second day in a row. The FTSE dropped 1.5% on Teresa May’s Brexit speech sending the sterling higher and stopping a 3 week rally in the UK equity markets. Investors fear the economical consequences and lower UK growth. Lufthansa was the top DAX performer on merger speculation with Etihad Airways.  UK employment numbers in the morning is the important news on the agenda Wednesday.

The aftermath of UK prime minister May speech turned the table for the sterling sending it close to 3% higher vs the dollar in the best move since the 90es. All majors gained vs the dollar on remarks from US president Trump in the Wall Street Journal that the dollar is too strong to compete with China. UK employment numbers in the morning is the important news on the agenda Wednesday.
